About the Position

The Director of Research and Design is responsible for leading and developing our client accounts and partnering with Sales Leads to bring in new accounts through thoughtful, strategic custom research design and consulting. The Director will design strategic research across a variety of clients and methodologies, and develop consultative partnerships with these clients through deep experience answering complex research questions with research, and helping organizations evangelize and act on research internally.
Leading proposals, new business outreach, and creating custom capabilities presentations is an important function of the Director, as well as maintaining strong relationships with our current client portfolio. The research Director leads teams on complex, strategic work, and mentors and coaches staff on technical and strategic skills. The Director is a key member of our senior team and an active part in training our staff, developing our product offering, and innovating new research methods and deliverables.


• Design and oversee research projects across methodologies while overseeing a support team of project managers and analysts
• Ensure our custom and creative methodologies are well-executed by reviewing key research inputs and outputs, and adding the extra wow-factor
• Responsible for ensuring the research delivers on objectives, provides actionable and inspirational results, and that the research is evangelised within the client’s organization
• The key internal consultant for the team and the key external consultant for the client.

• Build consultative relationships with clients through strategic conversations about business needs and objectives, and translating those needs into custom research design
• Maintain consultative relationships with clients through frequent outreach, client visits, and other strategic touchpoints
• Lead account development goals for assigned accounts

New Business
• Experience in business development within client accounts or seeking out new business, with a proven ability to listen for new research opportunities and suggest/pursue them in a partnership focused way (not "salesy")
• Lead and partner with Senior Directors/VPs on new business pitches and capabilities presentations with current and new clients
• Consistently lead research proposals for new projects and new clients
• Taking a client’s business questions/needs and turn them into a compelling research design that will meets/exceeds objectives

• Manage and mentor teams to deliver on objective and above client expectations
• Training and leadership presence for the entire staff, including training and process development
• Active role in company strategy, both internal and external (includes areas such as staff development and satisfaction, company culture, client development initiatives, etc)
• Oversee the development and career growth of up to 2 sr. manager/manager-level direct reports

Skills & Expertise

• 10+ years of experience in market research design and analysis
• Proven experience in leading research with tangible impact on the client's business
• Experience growing and managing relationships in a variety of client organizations, including larger/compartmentalized organizations with multiple projects and stakeholders involved
• Experience designing custom, strategic projects across methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative, and advanced analytics
• Experience motivating and mentoring teams, removing roadblocks when needed
• Ability to train on any step of the research process
• Critical thinker, naturally curious, internally driven to succeed
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability
