Jason Kramer

Jason Kramer

Founder and Managing Director

Jason is well known in the research industry for developing highly-custom, creative methodologies for solving difficult business challenges.  He has 18 years of market research analysis and management experience, as founder of Vital Findings, co-founder of media research consultancy Interpret, EVP of Nielsen NRG, Assistant General Manager of Entertainment at Lieberman Research Worldwide, and Director of Research at Activision.  With an unusual dual expertise as a qualitative moderator and quantitative methodologist, Jason has provided high quality and uniquely actionable results for a multitude of global clients, including Warner Bros., Sony, LG, NBC Universal, Yahoo!, Hulu, Life Technologies, Disney, Logitech and Intel. He has been a featured speaker at Screen Digest’s PEVE event since 2009, the Digital Entertainment Group’s Academy on Ultraviolet, the Entertainment Merchant Association conference, and at The Market Research Event.  Jason is also recognized for his particular expertise in global media and technology research.  Since 2002, he has conducted dozens of A&Us, positioning studies, concept tests, and ad tests in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Brazil, and Mexico. A cum laude graduate of Yale University, his senior year Jason was awarded Yale's annual public speaking prize, the DeForest Prize.

Amanda Hirsch

Amanda joins Vital Findings with an extensive background in market research.  Amanda specializes in global brand and advertising research with a passion for brand equity.  Amanda has over 12 years of market research experience leading teams in qualitative and quantitative methodologies.  Amanda has consulted with a wide variety of industries and clients including HP, Intel, Levi’s, Disney, Eddie Bauer, Jackson Family Wines, eHarmony, IGT, Las Vegas Sands, Roll Global, Warner Bros, and Jordan brand to name a few.  In addition to large scale tracking programs, Amanda is also passionate about custom research, particularly areas where new methodologies can be implemented (such as neuroscience techniques - implicit associations and facial coding).  Prior to joining Vital Findings, Amanda was Vice President at Millward Brown where she led large scale global brand equity studies, global advertising tracking, copy testing, creative development research, segmentation, and custom ad-hoc studies.  Amanda graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a BA in Economics and Psychology.

Beth O'Shaughnessy

Beth brings to Vital Findings a passion for delivering issue-focused insights to her clients and an extensive background in global brand, advertising, and segmentation work.  With 11+ years of experience, she is a seasoned researcher across multiple methodologies, industries, and countries.  Beth has designed, implemented, and led research across a wide variety of clients including Intel, Eddie Bauer, Genentech, GlaxoSmithKlein, Jordan Brand, Disney, DirecTV, Sports Illustrated, US Tennis Association, and Time Inc.  Beth is passionate about serving as a trusted partner to her clients by ensuring all of the research and insights are delivering against the key business issues.  Prior to joining Vital Findings, Beth spent 5 years as a Director at Millward Brown leading large-scale global brand and advertising tracking, creative development (from idea through to copy-testing), segmentation, A&Us, and other ad-hoc studies.  Before that, she worked at boutique research firms specializing in integrated qualitative and quantitative research programs.  Beth graduated from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business with a B.S. in Business Administration/Marketing.

Krista Holt

Krista is the data synthesis and design champion at Vital Findings. Her passion for research is rooted in using data to tell an engaging story about consumer and market dynamics with an emphasis on actionable recommendations. She specializes in thought leadership research, where she helps elevate the most attention-grabbing and actionable insights to tell a story that will move an audience and an industry. Krista has over nine years of experience designing and leading research across methodologies, including segmentation, focus groups, IDIs, ethnographic, brand health, attitude and usage, neuroscience, brand equity/valuation, advertising copy testing, brand positioning and halo, concept testing, and conjoint/discrete choice research. Prior to her role at Vital Findings, Krista spent five years at Millward Brown, where she was a copy testing SME and global brand tracking manager research for key client accounts. Client experience includes MetLife, Autotrader, KBB, UGG, ABInBev, MillerCoors, Starbucks, Anthem, Warner Bros., Logitech, Univision, Hulu, 12WBT, Kabam, DirecTV, LG, HP, SC Johnson, T-Mobile, Energizer, Hallmark, Busch Entertainment, Babybel, and Symantec. Krista graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, with a B.S. in Marketing.

Brian Thompson

Brian Thompson

Director, Research and Design

Brian specializes in highly custom and immersive methodologies which cut to the heart of clients’ tough business questions.  Brian is an analyst and storyteller at heart, and relishes the opportunity to dive deep into the data to uncover insights that can change the way clients approach their customers. Currently, Brian designs and manages research for HBO, Yahoo, Roll Global, Warner Bros. and Thermo Fisher Scientific. His recent methodological experience includes thought leadership research, design research (ethnographies), market landscapes, discrete choice modeling, and segmentation.  Prior to Vital Findings, Brian had the opportunity get face-to-face with consumers in China (T1 & T2), India, Japan, and EMEA as part of Dell’s global research efforts; before that, he conducted research for pharmaceutical, automotive, and entertainment clients at Lieberman Research Worldwide.  Brian has 10 years of research experience and graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.S. in Sociology.

Jenny recently joined the Vital Findings team with expertise in brand and advertising research.  She has been the leading member of top performing teams on global brand and advertising research for Fortune 500 companies across a variety of industries, with clients such as Capital One, Newell Rubbermaid, Intel, UPS, InterContinental Hotels Group, Nestle, Toyota, Safeway, and Expedia. Before coming to Vital Findings, Jenny served as a Senior Analyst at Millward Brown across Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and Atlanta markets, specializing in building relationships and delivering best-in class results across brand and advertising tracking, multi-channel copy testing, neuroscience, advanced analytics, and custom research studies. Jenny graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a BA in Psychology and Organizational Studies, and holds an MA in Psychology with a focus on Organizational Behavior and Evaluation from Claremont Graduate University. 

Ivey Tapp

Manager, Research and Design

Ivey comes to Vital Findings with over four years of experience in market research, specializing in qualitative ethnography, digital methods, and online panel and community management, primarily in shopper research, concept testing, and segmentation studies. She is a passionate consumer advocate who tells data-driven stories that drive actionable, culturally relevant, sustainable insights. As an applied anthropologist, she never underestimates the importance of context and history, and understands that rich, compelling information is often found in the messy and mundane aspects of life. She takes a grounded, immersive, and empathetic approach to her research and client service. Her research and management experience spans two continents and many industries, with clients including McDonald's, Nestle Purina, Samsung, E&J Gallo, Red Bull, Tervis, and Universal. She holds a BA in Anthropology and an MA in Cultural Applied Anthropology from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Camille Barbier

Camille comes to Vital Findings with over seven years of market research experience, during which she has been recognized for her high degree of analytic acumen and smart problem solving. Camille’s love for research started at Ipsos’ headquarters in Paris, where she conducted advertising testing and tracking for clients such as L'Oréal, L’Occitane, Chanel, Dior and MasterCard. In 2010, Camille relocated to the Ipsos Cincinnati office, where she managed the Procter & Gamble account across multiple brands. There she specialized in creating holistic stories, combining primary research and secondary data including Ad*Views, syndicated sales data and social listening. Prior to joining Vital Findings, Camille was at Millward Brown managing large scale global accounts such as Visa, Starbucks, HP, eBay and Red Bull, for whom she conducted brand equity, path to purchase, attitude & usage, advertising and Hispanics research. Camille graduated from Audencia Business School in France with a Master in Marketing, and made the Dean’s list while on an exchange program at the University of Cincinnati. She speaks Spanish in addition to French and English.

Sofia Stromberg

Sofia’s path to market research is led by a keen interest to understand what drives consumers to action. Starting her career at Ipsos ASI, she focused on providing clients with strategic guidance on creative development and optimization, using quantitative, qualitative, and neuroscience techniques. Sofia then transition to Millward Brown as she continued to push her copy testing expertise and partnered with clients to develop brand equity tracking and custom research programs. She loves creating stories for her clients, delivering understanding and actionable insights to strategic objectives. Over the course of her career, she has worked with several Fortune 500 companies across a wide range of categories, including Capital One, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Merck, among others. Sofia graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut with a BA in Psychology and Communication Sciences.

Tara O'Brien

Tara O’Brien is an experienced researcher with a strong background and  keen interest in the technology, gaming and home entertainment fields. As a research manager she consults with clients to design custom research solutions to help them understand the nuance and trends in the market, identify and grow opportunities and leverage their strengths. Tara has worked with a variety of brands including EA, Activision, Disney, Panasonic, Bowers & Wilkins, Supercell and AOL. Her experience spans a wide variety of research methodologies, both qual and quant, including brand tracking, segmentation, conjoint analysis, ethnography and shop-alongs. She is a champion for integrated research approaches, utilizing them to provide comprehensive solutions to her client’s research questions. With a practical and goal-focused approach to managing research projects Tara ensures smooth day-to-day management of the project, and guides the process to deliver the highest quality research insights. She is a committed partner to her clients and welcomes opportunities to work closely and iteratively over time to become a trusted research partner.

Stephanie David

Stephanie joins the Vital Findings team with close to 8 years of research experience and a keen curiosity for new and exciting methodologies.  She began her career at an independent ad agency getting her first taste at custom research and working on copy testing and ad tracking for several accounts.  While there she was able to work across a wide variety of industries, including automotive, entertainment, hospitality, consumer packaged goods, and insurance.  After a few years of specializing in media research, she took the plunge into market research and hasn't looked back since.  She spent the last three years running a successful brand and equity tracker for a large digital and media company across several markets, as well as conducting ad-hoc research to better help and inform the client on their diverse business needs.  She graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology and spent a semester studying in Spain.  

Amanda Milner

Amanda is passionate about quantifying consumer thoughts and bringing them to life for clients. She has always had a curiosity to learn why consumers make specific purchasing decisions and how organizations can discover what their customers want, in order to better optimize their product. Using her background in strong quantitative methodologies, she enjoys using mathematical modeling to determine brand health and better understand consumer insight over and above traditional methodologies. She has experience in the home entertainment, computer gaming, and weight loss/fitness markets, working with clients such as Warner Brothers, Logitech, and DIRECTV. Prior to working at Vital Findings, Amanda graduated cum laude from Occidental College with a B.A. and collegiate honors in Psychology and a minor in Mathematics. Her Psychology honors thesis examined how various types of missing data and data imputation techniques affect the results of relative weights analysis, a new statistical model used in place of traditional correlation analyses.

Chad Cotner

Chad Cotner

Senior Analyst, Research and Design

Chad comes to Vital Findings with a strong interest in innovative research and bringing consumers to life. Specifically, he loves new product development, examining market potential, concept testing, user experience testing, and segmentations. He is a firm believer in providing clients with direct, actionable insights they apply to their day-to-day business dealings.Chad is well-versed in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies and is always interested in exploring inventive approaches to help clients solve their most complex issues. He has experience working across multiple industries including home entertainment, gaming, consumer packaged goods (CPG), technology, social media, and insurance.Chad comes from the vendor-side of research and worked with a market research vendor for 3 years prior to joining Vital Findings. He has a Master of Arts degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Experimental Psychology and a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in Psychology.

James Gallagher

James Gallagher

Senior Analyst, Research and Design

James comes to Vital Findings with an innate curiosity about people’s behavior and a passion for uncovering what’s on the cutting edge of culture. Since joining VF, he has also developed a unique ability to embrace and tackle complex business problems and research solutions. He has worked on a variety methodologies from tactical monadic concept/package testing and tracking studies to strategic projects including multiple segmentations and A&Us. He has had the opportunity to work across industries with a wide variety of clients including Starbucks, Warner Bros., AMC, HBO, and MetLife. He relishes opportunities for global research, and thus far has worked on project in Asia, Europe, as well as multiple Hispanic-focused research projects.  His favorite projects are ones where he has an opportunity to connect clients with consumers on a fast moving trend to create an aligned market that benefits both sides. James graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Occidental College with a B.A. in Economics.

Morgan brings a passion for understanding human behavior and a commitment to delivering superior market research to Vital Findings. With a psychology background, Morgan enjoys asking the “why” or “how” questions to uncover the underlying motivations propelling individuals’ behaviors. She has always been curious about people, and seeks to leverage that inquisitiveness to empathize with consumers, discover their purchase motivations, and translate data into actionable insights for clients. Morgan received her B.A. in Strategic Communications and Psychology cum laude from Elon University, and most recently obtained her M.S. in Applied Psychology at the University of Southern California, where she specialized in Consumer Psychology. Morgan is excited to use her analytical and communication skills to curate meaningful data-driven stories and consumer-centered deliverables for clients. 

Marlene Hong

Marlene’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm for acquiring a deeper understanding of individuals, consumer branding, and consultancy brought her to market research at Vital Findings. Her modern insight of populations and innate ability in discovering critical patterns while analyzing complex data is expertise she applies towards facilitating actionable decisions on behalf of VF’s clients. Additionally, Marlene has a genuine passion for collaborating with individuals in helping to solve their most pressing problems. Her formal training in conflict resolution allows her to go beyond traditional consultancy by applying a more empathetic and immersive approach in truly understanding a client’s business problems, allowing her to garner stronger tact in finding solutions and understanding their needs. Her comprehensive research experience incorporates both traditional and innovative research methodologies in investigating qualitative and quantitative data. Marlene has worked with varying industries thus far, including such clients as HBO, Mattel, AutoTrader, and MetLife. She understands the importance of always delving deeper and incorporating creativity into not just design, but the discovery of solutions which are key in the market research consultancy specialization that defines Vital Findings. Marlene graduated from the University of California, Irvine with B.A. in Sociology and minor in Conflict Resolution.

Michael Matthews

Michael comes to Vital Findings with a passionate belief in market research as a means to demystify and resolve complex business issues. He is enthusiastic about augmenting his prior research and statistical experience, and aims to acquire new competencies integral to generating meaningful market research. Prior to joining Vital Findings, Michael graduated Summa Cum Laude and with departmental honors from the University of California, Irvine, earning a B.A. in Political Science. While at UC Irvine, Michael produced an honors thesis studying the interrelationship of China’s domestic politics and foreign policies, and was recognized for his work with the Jack and Suzie Peltason Scholarship for undergraduate Political Science research. Michael is extremely excited to work with the Vital Findings team, and hopes to use his research and statistical training to help VF’s clients achieve their strategic goals.

Jenna brings to Vital Findings an enthusiasm for combining her analytical and communication skills to deliver actionable insights when solving complex issues. She has an innate interest in understanding consumer behavior and utilizes her problem-solving passion to tell data-driven stories. She embraces the opportunity to apply innovative research methods when analyzing qualitative and quantitative data. Jenna is currently pursuing her M.S. in Mass Communication with a concentration in Market Research from Boston University. Prior, she graduated with Honors from University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Communication and Spanish and a minor in Professional Writing.

Emma's interest in consumer behavior and decision making brought her to Vital Findings, where she uses her strong research skills to solve challenging business problems. Due to her background in both cognitive psychology and economics, Emma understands the consumer decision making process from multiple perspectives. At Vital Findings, Emma works primarily with entertainment clients such as Sony, Warner Brothers, and Universal Studios.Emma graduated magna cum laude from Pomona College with a B.A. in Linguistics & Cognitive Science and a minor in Economics. Emma is excited to work with a variety of clients on unique and interesting problems and to translate data into meaningful stories and insights.

Avalon Harder

Research Associate Intern

Avalon comes to Vital Findings with a passion for the ways in which culture influences consumer decision-making processes. She values a mixed methods approach to research and brings the unique perspective of a retail sales associate to the field of consumer insights.  Prior to joining Vital Findings, she graduated cum laude and with Honors from Scripps College, earning a B.A. in Sociocultural Anthropology. While earning her degree Avalon completed a year-long ethnography using both qualitative and quantitative methods to explore how Scottish-Americans conceptualized Scottish independence leading up to the 2014 independence referendum. Avalon is currently pursuing her Master's in Communication Management with a concentration in Marketing Communication at the University of Southern California. She is thrilled to part of the Vital Findings team. 

Chen Yao

Senior Visual Designer

Chen is the mastermind behind visual storytelling at Vital Findings, striving for industry leadership in data visualization. She believes that market research should go beyond templated charts and graphs and into engaging and compelling storytelling through illustration, vivid photography, infographics, video, and motion graphics. Chen enjoys transforming extensive and complex data into easily comprehensible graphics by applying theories of design, journalism, aesthetics, and cognitive science. Chen has designed unique and attention-getting graphics for a variety of clients and business needs, including multiple consumer segmentation and user personas, branding and promotional videos, multimedia presentations, video highlight reels, purchase adoption curves, visual shopper journeys, abstract visual presentations, workshop cards, persona posters. Prior to joining Vital Findings, Chen worked in various media publications and organizations as an information graphics artist. Chen graduated from University of Missouri with a M.A. in Journalism focusing on Information Graphics and won an award from the Student Society for News Design (SSND) in the Information Graphics Portfolio category. Chen knows her works make a difference when receiving unanimously positive feedback from clients.

Cherry is skilled at providing project solutions, developing and bringing new ideas, and is dedicated to cultivating close and productive relationships with all team members. She has over 10 years of Office Management experience in fields such as entertainment, non-profit, and video game production. Cherry graduated from Davies's College in London with a degree in Government & Politics.
