We are looking for a Director, Qualitative Research to join our team. You will serve as the strategic qualitative specialist, developing consultative partnerships with clients and coaching our staff – elevating their ability to thoughtfully design and skillfully execute qualitative research spanning methodology, recruitment, moderation and analysis. As the qualitative expert, your deep experience will be used to address complex questions and help organizations evangelize and act on research internally.

Leading proposals, new business outreach, and creating custom capabilities presentations is an important function of the Director, Qualitative Research. The qualitative specialist will also stay on top of industry trends to develop new methodologies and product offerings that reinforce Vital Findings’ innovation-led positioning.

• Design and lead qualitative projects that are highly visible within client organizations and those that are of strategic importance to Vital Findings, contributing ideas, experience, and doing final reviews at key stages of the project process
• Serve as the expert qualitative consultant internally and externally, on projects where you are not a day-to-day member of the team. This includes consultation during the bidding/proposal phase and at key points throughout the project lifecycle, once won
• Ensure our custom and creative methodologies are well-executed by reviewing key research inputs and outputs, and adding the extra wow-factor
• Ensure the research delivers on objectives, provides actionable and inspirational results, and is evangelized within the client’s organization
• Help staff connect and integrate qualitative research with quantitative methodologies and storytelling
• Serve as lead moderator on strategic projects and accounts, while guiding and fostering moderation and qualitative ops talent across staff via trainings and resourcing, the outcome of which will be improved profit margins, agility, and high quality
• Partner with design to ensure photography and videography are done at the highest quality

• Build and maintain consultative relationships with clients through strategic conversations about business needs and objectives, and translate those needs into custom qualitative research design
• Lead account development goals for assigned accounts

New Business
• Lead and partner with Senior Directors/VPs/SVP on qualitative proposals for new clients
• Lead and partner with Senior Directors/VPs on qualitative proposals for existing clients, or support through consultation on study approach, methodology and partners
• Lead and partner with Senior Directors/VPs/SVP on capabilities presentations

• Manage and mentor project teams to deliver on objective and above client expectations
• Develop and lead training for staff in qualitative methods, techniques and exercises
• Play an active role in company strategy, including areas such as staff development and satisfaction, company culture, and client development initiatives
• Oversee the development and career growth of direct reports
• Develop pricing guidelines and a vetting and onboarding process for freelance moderators and other external qualitative support

Innovation & Operations
• Partner with the VP, People & Innovation to track and experiment with new methodologies, tools, processes and techniques ensuring that their application is creative and purposeful, and delivered at the highest quality, as well as documented and evangelized internally
• Create a US and international qualitative network vetting moderators and vendors and establishing in-country go-tos in markets determined to be of strategic importance to future capabilities

Skills & Expertise

• 10+ years of experience in market research design and analysis
• Deep experience designing and leading custom, qualitative strategic projects
• Critical thinker, naturally curious, internally driven to succeed
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Ability to provide strong client consultation
• Ability to manage, mentor and train others
• Willingness and ability to jump in and personally complete any step of the research process at any time, if needed
